Simple but valuable advice from @investorslive on “having to be in” $NDRM, $NRX

I’m taking this week off, and glad for it, though as a trader its impossible to stay completely away from the markets, even when you have no positions.

I saw all the noise on $NDRM and $NRX and thought, “Wow glad I’m not on the front side of those moves”. Especially for a low risk hopefully consistent trader like me its amazing how just waiting a few days can truly bring the “easy money”.

Sure shorting or even buying these crazy low floaters the first day can make you money, but IMHO its a coin flip. Just chill, trade your watch list and wait. So many times I’ve got caught up watching the hot stock of the day or the hot stocks of the day, then during my daily review, look back at my watchlist and say “Fuck, I missed 2-3 layups today”. All because I was locked in on some screaming low floater that never gave a good entry.

Nate’s tweet below really hit home, trade your plan and ignore the 150% movers the first day.

Watchlist 12-23-2014 – $ADXS, $CUBA, $TASR, $SPLS, $TRXC, $FMD, $CERS,

Today’s Plan:

Waited all day yesterday for a short on $TASR, timed it well and profited well. Covered way to soon like usual, but I had a bunch of distractions going on. Lots on watch today so I’ll be patient and really focus on letting stuff come to me. Still need to do some Christmas shopping so it may be a half day for me.

Watchlist:

ADXS

Not sure why I have not entered this yet, guess I’m just really focused on not getting caught in the front side of the move. Will be watching closely today, looks like its prime to roll over.

ADXS

CUBA

GLAD I have avoided this, tons of range and lots of opportunities, but for me I have never felt like I had an edge, every time I went to enter it just felt 50/50 to me. Kind of the same as $ADXS, I would much rather wait till the backside.

cubs

TASR

While I don’t like trading real stocks, I’ve done ok on this over the last few days. Seems to be pretty easy to pick support and resistance levels and trade the channel. Beginning to get pretty overextend though. I’d like to see a pop to short into and maybe hold a little longer.

TASR

SPLS

Almost identical comments to $TASR, real stock, I’ve traded it well, but have not held for a bigger more, would like to look to do that.

SPLS

TRXC

Missed the big drop, but I think this could be a very solid swing short with smaller size.

TRXC

FMD

This is the last day I watch this, sick of looking at it. I like the chart but it seems to just want to track sideways.

FMD

CERS

Should have faded this late day, but again I had guys painting my office so it was very difficult to focus and feel like I was on top of things. Will look to short into a big move, and ideally fade all day.

CERS

Watchlist 12-22-2014 – $CUBA, $TRXC, $FRO, $FMD, $BAS, $OAS, $CERS, $ADXS

Today’s Plan:

Ton’s of oil and gas plays have my screens all clogged up, there are so many of them, that I find it hard to decide which ones to add to watch. I went with BAS and OAS just because I’m familiar with them and thought about trading them Friday.

CUBA

Still watching and waiting for the backside of the move to short, need to be more aggressive trying to buy some of these. All week this thing looked like it could spike hard, would have been a great long many different times.

CUBA

TRXC

I was super cautious and stayed away from this, if it was any other day than a Friday afternoon I would have shorted. But was scared of a Friday afternoon spike, and did not want to get stuck it in over the weekend. Hopefully get a spike to short in to.

TRXC

FRO

I’m still holding this short, but it just keeps grinding up. It fades at some point, I just don’t know if I will be able to hang around long enough to take advantage of it. Looked solid Friday morning, but then spike right into the close.

FRO

FMD

I have a small starter short in this, comments are basically the same as FRO, its being stubborn, but I think it fades medium term.

FMD

BAS and OAS

These are the oil and gas plays I’m watching, so much volatility on Oil right now, not sure if i have any sort of edge. Other than trying to trade technicals.

BAS

oAS

CERS

Made decent money on this Friday, though my entry was terrible, had it on watchlist to enter around $7, I watched it fade all morning then traded it from like the $6.50’s to the $6.30’s, nice easy fade and I covered around the LOD but bummed I lacked conviction on my entry. Will look for another spike to short.

CERS

ADXS

I had been watching this for a fader for a couple days and almost entered, yikes it spiked hard Friday afternoon. They are still a carcass but they closed on some financing. I meant to read it closer but will after I post this list.

ADXS

Watchlist 12-19-2014 – $CERS, $FRO, $SPLS, $TASR, $CUBA, $FMD, $SRNE, $ADXS

Plan:

Mixed day yesterday, up some down some back and forth. With the fed announcement and the crazy market I probably should have just sat on my hands. Crazy market and looks to continue today. I’ll be trading but all my sizes will be puny. Follow up on yesterday, a Friday, and going into the holiday who knows what might happen.

List:

CERS

Traded this pretty well yesterday, played the channel between $6.20 and $6 a couple times. Thought about taking it overnight but since it never wanted to crack $6 convincingly I opted out. Got lucky there, news overnight, but it kind of looks like the same news from a couple days ago, so I’ll be watching. Entry watch: $7.00

CERS

FRO

Held this all day and took it overnight, spiking a little pre market, but I’ve just got a starter size, will hold and add as long as it does not get to crazy. But again with the market like it is I’m not to enthusiastic about swinging shorts. Entry watch: $2.70

FRO

SPLS

This was my winner from yesterday, in and out way to much though. Had I just held from the HOD reject I would have done much better. But again market was so nutty I was covering into any drop and shorting any spike. Entry watch: $17.40

SPLS

TASR

Holding a grudge on this, traded it basically the same as SPLS back on Wednesday and ended up losing on it, then yesterday it crapped. Considering my mindset I should probably stay away but I’ll be watching. Entry watch: Any big spikes

TASR

CUBA

Keep forcing myself to avoid this until the backside. Lots of range, but still to crowded. Bummer is I may wait to long and miss it. Maybe if it can get back to $9.50’s I’ll look to enter. Entry watch: $9.50

CUBA

FMD

I’d call this my primary watch, looking to get short into spikes. Entry watch: $5

FMD

SRNE

Annoying stock, should have taken my gains yesterday, but I’m in so small I decided to be wait. Probably a mistake at this point. Entry watch: $8.50’s

SRNE

ADXS

Had this on watch yesterday but it dropped right out of the gate so I didn’t enter. Never really cracked though, looks to be getting pretty long in the tooth. Entry watch: $5

ADXS

Watchlist 12-18-2014 – $CALA, $CUBA, $FRO, $CERS, $SRNE, $ADXS,

10986_738634669518097_930063683810995527_n

Plan:

Annoying day yesterday, good news is I kept to my stops and all losses were small, but it was a death by a thousand cuts kind of day, traded $SRNE for solid profits, but then gave it all back going in and out of $TASR non stop. Today and the next few days I’m going to focus on patience. I have been rushing and impulsive lately, not sure why. My sleep this week has been very poor so I wake up on edge and trying to smash. That is not what works for me, I’m much better waiting for stocks to come to me. Perfect example is yesterday in $TASR, none of my entries were very good, I made money, then gave it back, back and forth all afternoon. Put me in a very “vengeful” mood which is never good in trading. I don’t like making 10 trades a day.

CALA

Scary low floater, almost entered late day but never got filled, thank goodness it spike hard into the close. I will be watching for a parabolic entry, but this stock scares me right now. Entry watch: $26.90-$27

CALA

CUBA

Everyone is short this, good chance it dumps, but I’m not going to get stuck in the front side. I’ll wait for a hard short squeeze type entry. Entry watch: $9.50

CUBA

FRO

Up pre market, like this setup, but want a spike. Entry watch: $2.70

FRO

CERS

Like this as an all day fader, will be watching spikes, or if it goes sideways all day I’ll set risk on HOD. Entry watch: $6.00

CERS

SRNE

Did ok on this yesterday, shorted around 10AM yesterday and it dropped to the $7.80’s, I covered into that because I was distracted with TASR. I thought it was going to pull all day, but got lucky that I didn’t get squeezed. But I think it mostly held up because of the wacky market yesterday afternoon. Entry watch: $8.30’s

SRNA

ADXS

Looking to short a pop for the fade back. Entry watch: $5.10

ADXS

Watchlist 12-17-2014 – $SRNE, $FRO, $JOB, $ODP,

Plan:

Frustrating day yesterday missing out on $NVGN and being to early on $SRNE. Then I spent a ton of time trading and watching two REAL stocks, $ODP, and $CRUS. Ended up down on the day but a manageable loss. But its not the loss that has me so aggravated, I stuck to my stops and followed my plan, trading is about losing. What has me frustrated was not getting fully prepared, you can see that in my watchlist yesterday I half assed it. Then spending the day screwing around trading real stocks for piddly profits, all the while ignoring $NVGN. It was for sure a “jonesing for trades” type of day, if I was unsure about how to attack $NVGN so be it, but no good reason to then spend time trading shitty setups.

So today I’m back on track with a real watchlist and will stick to it.

Watchlist:

SRNE

As I mentioned I shorted this mid morning when it looked like it was going to fade all day. I was too paitient and probably could have covered for a couple hundred bucks but was hoping it could crack. Ended up spiking and I covered at my planned stop. So while it set me back on the day, I followed my plan and covered waaay before it spiked over $8. Will look to short into any sort of parabolic move or if it doesnt spike hard will look to late day fade.

SRNE

FRO

I like the prospects of this cracking $2 and falling hard, bummer is I don’t like the entry in the low $2’s where it is sitting right now. Crossing my fingers for a spike to get short into. Will be watching this closely today, probably my main watch.

FRO

JOB

Hate these cheapies, but I do like the chart. Doubt I will trade this, but will watch for fading.

JOB

ODP

Grrr, I know I bitch about trading a real company (Office Depot) above, and it pains me to think about spending all day watching it again. But this did show up on “old reliable” the red candle floater scan. So I will watch and will probably end up trading it and pissing myself off again..
